Mediation is about helping you work together to reach a fair solution. Because it’s collaborative rather than adversarial, you make progress much more quickly and at much lower cost than through the traditional solicitor route.

Unless we agree a fixed fee arrangement with you, we charge you each £120 plus VAT per hour. How many hours of our time will be required depends on many factors - whether you’re trying to sort out finances or arrangements for your children or both, the number and complexity of the issues, whether you’ll be mediating in the same or separate rooms, and so on.

The mediator will give you an idea of the likely overall cost of the mediation at your initial one to one assessment meeting. This will also be an opportunity to get a clearer idea of the issues to be resolved, to discuss the different options with you and to assess whether your case is suitable for a fixed fee arrangement. The assessment meeting (also known as a MIAM) has a fixed fee of £120 including VAT, which includes all correspondence, telephone calls and preparation time.

To give you some idea of the potential overall cost of a mediation once you’ve both decided to proceed with mediation, the majority of financial disputes require between 10 and 15 hours of a mediator’s time. Compare that with the typical cost of using a solicitor which can often be between £10,000 and £20,000 each and sometimes much more.
